Two blocks East of Cicero Avenue, a few minutes from the mall where Sketchers and Old Navy have made their entrance to the upcoming neighborhood of the Chicago Near West Side, Dream-Décor sign proudly shines on a rehabbed factory building at 4534 West North Avenue. Boldly painted in yellow, purple and lime, Dream-Décor cannot escape your eyes. Its display windows are crowded with sharply different styles of tapestry and leather handbags, eye-catching evening purses, funky clutches, leather computer cases with animal accents, printed cotton totes, luxurious travel bags, sport bags and even bikers’ head-wraps designed and manufactured by Dreambags, Inc.

In 2001, Dreambags moved to a 30,000 square feet desolated industrial building in “an economically distressed area.” While renovating the building and turning it into an upbeat manufacturing facility, Dreambags has created multiple jobs for low income families. It trained unskilled workers to operate industrial sewing and cutting equipment, work on computers and develop samples.

The ultimate goal was to introduce Dreambags’ line of handbags, purses, pet carriers, business and travel cases  to Chicagoans at its own retail space, Dream-Décor. Although Dreambags sells through its website www.dreambags.com, Dream-Décor was an important step in pursuing the plan of opening multiple Dream-Décor locations around the country.

Store’s interior design combines a contemporary color palette of orange, lime and purple with aluminum fixtures made from industrial materials, reminiscent of the factory, literary, behind the wall. Two antique sewing machines remind us of the past, while paintings by children, displayed in the store, demonstrate Dreambags’ believe in art education of our youth for better future.

The store, designed like a gallery/studio place, nurtures creativity, surprises, and fearless combinations of colors, materials and unexpected shapes. It hopes to make dream come true for those in search of unique, rich looking, yet functional and well manufactured bags. Elegance, attitude, substance, style, colors; these are the keywords of Dreambags’ designs. Regardless of profession, taste, ethnicity, or pocket depth, each customer can find something for herself or himself.

From funky to classic, from contemporary to traditional, from daily commute to evenings out, from summer to winter, Dream-Décor is ready to service a wide scope of customers. It has a line for Her, Him and, of course, the Pet.

Being a full fledge manufacturer, Dreambags is able to offer numerous styles of handbags and computer cases for customized production. Customers choose from leather and fabrics which are carefully selected to suit each individual handbag’s structure. A customer, thus, becomes a creator/designer of a unique item reflecting her or his taste.

In addition to customized production of leather and fabric handbags, a series of decorative pillows, futon covers, table runners, bed throws and pet beds is available for custom production as well. Dream-Décor’s home furnishing line, tailored for family rooms, dormitories, studies, sun rooms and living rooms, combines traditional and classic as well as very contemporary and funky looks. As with handbags, all custom home furnishing orders are made right at the location.

Dream-Décor has selected four charities, Dreams for Kids, Alliance to Save Energy, Reading is Fundamental and NORD, to which it donates 5% of each sale per customers’ preferences. Dream-Décor, thus, assists those who want but never get around donating to charitable causes and, perhaps, helps to build awareness among the customers about good deeds of this country.
